Filmmaker Team
Linda Fenstermaker, Caryn Cline and Reed O’Beirne, are a filmmaking team representing three different generations that collaborate to challenge the notion of single-authorship of a film. Our technique, thus far, has been to shoot a single roll of 16mm film with a Bolex camera that we physically mask into thirds so that each of us can shoot an entire reel that exposes only one third of the film. Then the film is rewound and the the camera is passed along to the next filmmaker who shoots the next third, and so on. The end result presents these separately-shot-segments simultaneously within a single spatial plane to evoke a cinematic conversation based on a horizontal compositional logic within the shared frame.
